Black Maple Hill 18 Year Rye Cask #70
The Black Maple Hill brand was first introduced back in 2000, back before bourbon got really hot. It’s produced by CVI Brands, a non-distiller spirits importer and bottler based in San Carlos, California. For a long time, CVI Brands sourced its bourbon from Kentucky. The early Black Maple Hill releases were rumored to be wheated bourbon from Stizel-Weller and bottled by Julian Van Winkle III himself. Later, bottling was said to have been moved to Kentucky Bourbon Distillers, and rumor has it the whiskey used came from Heaven Hill. As the bourbon demand exploded, the supply of aged stock for their single barrel and small batch offerings, with age statements anywhere from 11 to 23 years, began to dry up. So Black Maple Hill moved to the non-age statement, but even then, sourcing became impossible. This is the pre-New Black Maple Hill juice that's sourced from Oregon.
